Welcome to the ImageLite support page. ImageLite is a simple Chrome extension that lets you convert images available on the web to WebP, AVIF, JPEG, or PNG directly from the right-click context menu.

What is ImageLite?

ImageLite was developed by Ayman Abdullah to make image conversion easier for website owners, content managers, designers, and anyone who needs modern image formats without using external conversion websites.

Images are processed locally inside the browser. They are not uploaded to M7tawa or sent to any external server.

What does ImageLite do?

ImageLite adds a new option to the right-click context menu when you place the mouse pointer over an image on a web page.

How to use ImageLite

  1. Install ImageLite from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Open any web page that contains an image.
  3. Place the mouse pointer over the image you want.
  4. Right-click directly on the image.
  5. Select “ImageLite” from the menu.
  6. Choose WebP, AVIF, JPEG, or PNG.
  7. A success indicator will appear on the extension icon.
  8. Find the converted file in Chrome’s current download location, or choose the destination if “Ask where to save each file” is enabled.

AVIF conversion may take longer

AVIF conversion can take slightly longer than WebP, JPEG, or PNG, especially when processing large or high-resolution images, because AVIF uses more advanced compression.

Changing image quality

You can control the quality of converted files by clicking the ImageLite icon next to the Chrome address bar.

WebP Quality

Controls the quality and compression level of WebP files.

AVIF Quality

Controls the quality and compression level of AVIF files.

JPEG Quality

Controls the quality and compression level of JPEG files.

PNG Output

PNG is exported losslessly and does not require a quality setting.

Increasing the quality level usually results in:

  • A clearer image.
  • A larger output file.

Reducing the quality level usually results in:

  • A smaller output file.
  • Stronger image compression.

The default settings are designed to provide a practical balance between image quality and file size. You can adjust them according to the needs of your website or project.

Supported image formats

ImageLite can process most static image formats that Google Chrome can open, including:

JPG JPEG PNG WebP AVIF

These images can be converted to:

WebP AVIF JPEG PNG

Animated images

When converting an animated GIF or animated WebP file, ImageLite may save only one static frame instead of preserving the full animation.

The current version of ImageLite is primarily designed for static images used in websites, articles, and content-management workflows.

Are images uploaded to an external server?

No.

Image conversion is performed locally inside Google Chrome on the user's device.

ImageLite does not:

  • Upload images to external servers.
  • Store copies of images on M7tawa.
  • Send image URLs to the developer.
  • Record the websites you visit.
  • Collect your browsing history.
  • Sell user data.
  • Display advertising or use tracking tools.

The image URL is accessed only after the user manually selects the image from the right-click context menu.

Where are converted images saved?

ImageLite lets you choose how converted files are saved. By default, files are saved automatically using Chrome's current download folder. You can also enable “Ask where to save each file” to choose the file name and destination before each download.

Common issues and solutions

The ImageLite option does not appear

First, make sure that the extension is installed and enabled.

Open Chrome and enter:

chrome://extensions

Then confirm that the ImageLite switch is enabled.

  • Reload the web page.
  • Right-click directly on the image itself.
  • Try another image on a different website.
  • Restart Chrome if the problem continues.

The context-menu option may not appear for:

  • CSS background images.
  • Images rendered inside Canvas elements.
  • Elements that look like images but are not actual image files.
  • Internal Chrome pages.

The image was not downloaded

This may happen when the source website blocks direct access to the image file.

  1. Right-click the image.
  2. Select “Open image in new tab.”
  3. Right-click the image again in the new tab.
  4. Select ImageLite.
  5. Choose WebP, AVIF, JPEG, or PNG.

You can also test a different image on another website to determine whether the issue is caused by the original website.

The converted image does not open

Make sure that the application you are using supports the selected output format. WebP, AVIF, JPEG, and PNG can all be opened directly in Google Chrome.

  1. Drag the image file into a Chrome window.
  2. Or right-click the image file.
  3. Select “Open With.”
  4. Select Google Chrome.

Some older applications may not support AVIF even when the file itself is valid.

AVIF conversion takes longer

This is normal. AVIF encoding is more complex than WebP and may require additional processing time for:

  • High-resolution images.
  • Images containing millions of pixels.
  • Higher quality settings.
  • Devices with limited memory or processing power.

Wait until the processing indicator disappears from the ImageLite extension icon.

The converted file is larger than the original

No image format guarantees a smaller output file in every situation. This may happen when:

  • The original image is already highly compressed.
  • The selected conversion quality is very high.
  • The image is very small or visually simple.
  • The source image is already highly optimized.
  • The image contains transparency or many fine details.

Try reducing the quality level gradually and compare the results.

The converted image lost transparency

WebP, AVIF, and PNG support transparency, while JPEG does not. The result also depends on the original image and the way the source website displays it.

Make sure that the source file actually contains transparency and does not simply have a white background built into the image.

Open the converted file in Chrome or in an image editor that supports transparent images.

The colors look slightly different

Small color differences may appear between applications because different programs handle color profiles and color management in different ways.

Compare the source and converted images inside Google Chrome for the most consistent result.

If the difference is significant, contact support and include the source image, the selected output format, and the quality setting you used.
